Kadish and Goldstein, along with a writer friend, Jules Langsner, went to Morelia, Mexico in 1934. Over a six month period, they painted a 1025 square foot mural on the wall of an 18th century palace near the cathedral. Struggle Against War and Fascism included figures in a dungeon tortured by three hooded members of the KKK. Bold figures and dynamic spaces carry the politics of the scene. Phil Goldstein changed his last name to Guston.
After returning to Los Angeles, Kadish-Guston painted a more subdued mural in the visitor center of the City of Hope in Duarte, California. It was completed in 1936. The Physical Growth of Man was smaller than the Morelia mural. Classical renaissance figures and compositions were modeled after Italian masters Signorelli and Piero Della Francesca.
